The Capitol insurrection was awash in religious imagery. A giant wooden processional cross, people kneeling in prayer, religious t-shirts, and banners declaring 鈥淛esus is my Savior, Trump is my President鈥 were among the ubiquitous religious symbols marking the violent crowd gathered in Washington, DC, on January 6. Even so, popular media coverage paid precious little attention to the religious factors fueling the deadly Capitol riot. 鈥淩ioting for Resurrection鈥 takes a hard look at the role that religion played in this dark chapter of US history, giving special attention to the links between white supremacy, Christian nationalism, and distinctly Evangelical notions of masculinity.
