{"id":372,"date":"2019-01-16T19:05:02","date_gmt":"2019-01-16T19:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/forward-thinking\/?page_id=372"},"modified":"2019-01-16T19:05:02","modified_gmt":"2019-01-16T19:05:02","slug":"students-study-urban-stormwater-with-epa-p3-grant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/forward-thinking\/fall-2018\/students-study-urban-stormwater-with-epa-p3-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Study Urban Stormwater With EPA P3 Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><strong>A team of undergraduate and graduate students, led by Earth and Environmental Studies Professor Yang Deng, recently received a $75,000 People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">By removing contaminants from urban stormwater at their source, the students\u2019 project, \u201cToward Sustainable Urban Stormwater Management with New, Green, Low-Cost Sorbent-Coated Wood Mulch,\u201d will help shorten water treatment time and make it more efficient to provide clean, safe water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ has long been a leader in New Jersey in the field of environmental science, management and sustainability research,\u201d says <strong>Scott Herness<\/strong>, vice provost for research and dean of The Graduate School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis grant enables our students and faculty to further the work on improving the quality of urban environments by using recycled municipal solid wastes as new adsorbents for removing heavy metal contaminants \u2014 such as lead and nutrient phosphorous \u2014 from stormwater at its source.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of undergraduate and graduate students, led by Earth and Environmental Studies Professor Yang Deng, recently received a $75,000 People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
