\nInformation Technology will be migrating to our new network operations
\ncenter in College Hall between now and January 2020.<\/p>\n
\u25cf Note All buildings will experience a brief (20 minute) network service interruption
\nwhen their network fiber cable(s) are migrated, but this will occur *after normal
\nbusiness hours* and should not impact work or classes.<\/p>\n

\n2. A very small number of buildings may require an extended network
\nservice interruption. Users in those locations will be notified in advance
\nand we will try to schedule any interruptions for summer Fridays or
\nweekends to minimize user impact.

\nbe maintained on the IT web site (www.montclair.edu\/information-technology)
\nunder News and Events to track progress through the end of the year.<\/p>\n

The migration involves physically re-routing hundreds of underground
\nfiber optic and copper cabling from buildings around campus into the new
\nCollege Hall location. For most buildings IT will avoid network outages
\nby utilizing alternate conduit pathways during the cable migration
\nprocess. These buildings will experience only a brief 20-minute
\ninterruption of service after normal business hours to make final
\nconnections.<\/p>\n
In the few cases where an alternate pathway cannot be used, network and
\nIP telephone services may need to be disconnected while cable is
\nphysically re-routed into the new location in College Hall. IT will
\nnotify occupants of those buildings at least 2 weeks in advance and will
\nminimize potential impact by scheduling the outages during summer
\nFridays and on weekends where possible. IT is also using 25Live as the
\nsource of information for special events scheduled on campus and will
\ncoordinate any planned outages around these events.<\/p>\n
There is always the possibility, although unlikely, that the team could
\nencounter a surprise during cable re-routing and introduce an unplanned
\nnetwork service interruption. In that unlikely event, IT expects to be
