New Canvas IgniteAI Tools Workshops Now Available! /itds/2026/01/21/new-canvas-igniteai-tools-workshops-now-available/ /itds/2026/01/21/new-canvas-igniteai-tools-workshops-now-available/#respond Wed, 21 Jan 2026 21:28:50 +0000 /itds/?p=8432 Faculty are invited to attend a new workshop highlighting the latest IgniteAI tools recently added to Canvas during the week of January 5, 2026. These features are optional and faculty-facing, except for Smart Search, which is available to both faculty and students. The session will provide a guided overview of each IgniteAI feature and demonstrate how to enable them in Settings > Feature Options.

  • IgniteAI Search: an AI-enhanced course search in Canvas that lets students and instructors find content using natural, “meaning-based” queries, not just exact keywords.
  • Ignite AI Translations (for Discussions and Announcements): allows faculty and students to translate Canvas text in place, supporting multilingual participation without leaving Canvas.
  • IgniteAI Translations (for Canvas Inbox): translates private Canvas Inbox messages in place, available for both faculty and students.
  • IgniteAI Summaries for Discussions:  lets an instructor generate a quick AI-written recap of a discussion thread right inside Canvas.
  • IgniteAI Insights for Discussions: uses AI to scan individual student replies and flag how relevant and substantive they are compared to the original prompt.
Feature Preview (free through 6/30/2026 and may incur additional cost in the future)
  • IgniteAI Generator for Rubrics: within an Assignment, instructors can generate a draft rubric based on the assignment description, then edit and refine it before publishing. Enhanced Rubrics must be enabled to use this feature.
Feature Preview (free through 6/30/2026 and may incur additional cost in the future)

This workshop is ideal for faculty who want to explore how AI can streamline course management, improve feedback workflows, and enhance student learning experiences within Canvas.

Faculty and staff may submit a Canvas Course Shell Request to begin developing courses, or a Canvas Community Request to set up collaborative, non-academic learning spaces. If you’re coordinating training for your team or department, our Group Training Request form allows you to schedule custom sessions focused on relevant instructional technologies.

  • Require Waiting Period Between Attempts
  • Stimulus, Ordering, and Hot Spot Question Types

We will continue to provide updates regarding the transition from Classic to New Quizzes at Montclair. In the meantime, you can learn about New Quizzes by attending one of our many workshops.

Stay tuned for next steps on our New Quizzes journey!
