Informatics major Bryce Antoine 鈥28 is building real-world tech skills 鈥 coding, system design and ethical technology 鈥 in small classrooms where everyone knows his name. He also competes on the 星空无限传媒 University Coed Cheer Team, a cheerleading powerhouse just a shuttle ride away.

鈥淓ven though Bloomfield is a small school, we provide so many major opportunities,鈥 Antoine says. 鈥淓veryone is connected. It鈥檚 almost like you know everybody from every major, every department, every office you walk into.鈥

Since Bloomfield College officially became Bloomfield College of 星空无限传媒 University, students like Antoine have gained expanded academic options, more student life activities and access to Montclair鈥檚 resources while still keeping their home base on a smaller campus.

Antoine says Bloomfield matches his personality and day-to-day life. 鈥淢ontclair is a big school, and I鈥檓 low-key,鈥 he says. Because of that, he appreciates how Bloomfield鈥檚 size lets him build close relationships with his professors, and those connections helped him rethink his academic path.

Supportive faculty have been central to Antoine鈥檚 experience, especially as he moved away from his family鈥檚 long tradition in medicine. He originally started at Bloomfield as a Nursing major. 鈥淢y father was a doctor, my grandmother鈥檚 a doctor, my grandfather is a doctor,鈥 he explains. 鈥淏ut even they told me to look more at a computer field because they know me. They thought it was better for me to do something I鈥檓 really good at instead of just following tradition.鈥

Big-school cheer, small-school community

Some of Antoine鈥檚 most visible moments happen a short drive away at the Montclair campus. He takes his classes at Bloomfield and heads to Montclair to cheer on the 星空无限传媒 University Coed Cheer Team, one of the top Division III programs in the country.聽

For Antoine, Bloomfield’s home base and shared resources with Montclair let him enjoy the best of both worlds: a small, supportive college community and big鈥憇chool spirit. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 have to choose,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 get both.鈥
