Sociology Majors and Minors that have earned high marks in their academic career are encouraged to apply for induction to , The International Sociological Honor Society. This is an excellent way to get recognized for your wonderful achievements. Honorees are awarded with a certificate, They can also purchase honors cords to wear at graduation.

to facilitate the interchange of ideas among sociology students and professors. The letters AKD stand for the Greek words Anthropon (humankind), Katamanthanein (to investigate thoroughly), and Diakonesein (for the purpose of service). Hundreds of chapters of AKD can be found across the United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, the Philippines, Taiwan and Slovenia. The Mu Chapter at ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½ was established in 1985 by Dr. Candace Clark.

Membership Criteria

Undergraduates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Sociology Major or Minor
  • Have a GPA of 3.3 overall
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 in Sociology courses
  • Have completed your sophomore year prior to the semester you join AKD
  • Have completed 12 semester hours in Sociology prior to the semester you join AKD

Graduate Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a student in the MA in Social Research & Data Analysis
  • Have completed at least one half year of study
  • Have a graduate GPA of at least a 3.0

A National Initiation Fee of $50 is charged to all AKD initiates.
